Dear Self, I love you!

I love myself dearly and unapologetically. Putting it in the words of the famous Geet from Jab We Met, main apni favourite hoon. For many of us, self-love might sound like a luxury rather than a necessity or a new-age fad for those with too much time on their hands. However studies have shown that perfectionists (people trying to cope up with this phantasm of perfection) are at a higher risk of several illnesses, both physical and mental, and that self-compassion might free us from its grip.

The norms set by the society that define an ideal human being are delusional and at the same time hysterical. No matter how good you do in life, people will despise you. They will have opinions about you. Understand the fundamental difference between these so called opinions and facts. Let them make opinions, let them paint a picture of you in their head. But the truth is you don’t have to abide by that picture. The world is your canvas. You paint a picture for yourself. You be what you want to be, you do what you want to do without any guilt. Be your own reason to smile. Love yourself unconditionally, love yourself with utmost honesty. The confidence, the peace, the energy it brings is empowering.

With social media around it is very easy to compare our lives with others. Social media is a world of make believe. No life is as glamorous as portrayed on social media. Everybody is flawed. That’s what makes us flawless. Spend time with your loved ones, sing songs, dance, write, study, work hard, give yourself a break, treat yourself because you my friend are a fighter. You are a rockstar. You are beautiful. You are handsome. God has sent you in this weirdly beautiful world because he loves you. I love you.

We at Purnkuti are trying our level best to imbibe self love in children by educating them, by giving them that confidence, by showing them how beautiful and pure they are. You can help us by donating and by loving yourself fearlessly. Walk down the stairs in love. Go out there, make mistakes, forgive yourself and keep making memories.
