How Was Your Childhood?

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when people ask you about your childhood? Most of us remember our school days, connect to those delightful days of friendship and fun, think about the time when life was easy and uncomplicated. One could easily say that those days were the simplest and the best days of our lives. But the important question is how many of us get to experience this childhood? Unfortunately, not all of us are that lucky!

According to UNICEF data, 1 out of 10 children is subjected to child labour worldwide. And this scenario is quite terrifying! Most of the underprivileged children are forced to work from a very young age due to the dire financial circumstances of the family. Some of them are made to beg on the streets, some of them are made to work in factories, some of them are found in small tea stalls or restaurants washing dishes and the list continues. At such a young age not only do these children have to face the economic burden of the family but are often subjected to extreme trauma from abuse or sexual exploitation at the workplace. Somewhere amongst the adversity, they not only get deprived of their basic right to education but their entire childhood is taken away from them.

In a civic society, children are always considered as the future of civilization. They are designated as the ‘leaders of tomorrow’. But don’t you think it is essential for each and every child to get that opportunity? For every child can shine brighter than the star!

For the past 10 years, Purnkuti has been trying to fight for these children by providing the necessary educational and financial assistance. Bringing back their lost childhood has been one of our goals since the beginning. And we earnestly hope that with your support and blessings, even if we can save even a single child from the vicious trap of child labour, then it will be a giant leap for mankind!
